Travelling with children

At Air Astana, we welcome all passengers on board, especially our youngest travelers. We offer special services for children and unaccompanied minors as well as a range of child and infant discounts. The following section outlines our pricing policy for children as well as the special services we offer for infants and young people travelling alone. Please note that children and accompanying persons need to travel in the same cabin (business/economy). A maximum of 30 children per 1 accompanying adult is allowed.


Infants under 2 years old

Infants under 2 years of age share a seat with an accompanying adult who is 18 years or older.

If they have no allocated seat:

  • on domestic flights within Kazakhstan and on international flights to/from Kazakhstan - free of charge (e.g., Almaty-Kyzylorda, Almaty-Delhi or Almaty-Astana-London);
  • on international flights between foreign countries through Kazakhstan - a discount of 90% off the full adult fare (e.g., Frankfurt-Astana-Tashkent);
  • on international flights under existing partnership agreements with partner airlines - a discount of 90% off the full adult fare (e.g., Almaty-Istanbul operated by Turkish Airlines).

In case they are travelling with an allocated seat:

  • on domestic flights within Kazakhstan and on international flights to/from Kazakhstan - a discount of 50% off the full adult fare (e.g., Almaty-Kyzylorda, Almaty-Delhi or Almaty-Astana-London);
  • on international flights between foreign countries through Kazakhstan - a discount of 25% off the full adult fare (e.g., Frankfurt-Astana-Tashkent);
  • on international flights under existing partnership agreements with partner airlines - a discount of 25% off the full adult fare (e.g., Almaty-Istanbul operated by Turkish Airlines).

Child Safety Seat

An airline ticket, providing an individual place, must be issued in order to carry on a child safety seat, it is charged according to a set fare.

Seat width must not exceed 41 cm. Child safety seats must be with a fastener for fixing to the passenger seat. The seat must be certified, as evidenced by the presence of a special mark or label. The airline does not provide passengers with child safety seats.

While boarding a passenger solely carries a child safety seat to its seat in a cabin. Flight attendants will help to secure the seat using belts. Child safety seats should be placed in a window seat.

The online check-in, as well as self-service kiosks, are not available for passengers willing to carry on a child safety seat.

A preliminary request is required at least 24 hours before departure. For this purpose, you may contact us at this link or contact the 24-hour Reservation and Information Center.

Baby Bassinet

Passengers travelling with infants (under 1 year of age) can use our baby bassinets to make their journey more comfortable and secure. This service is free of charge and available on the following types of aircraft: Airbus 321 NEO LR (Economy and Business Class), Boeing B767 (Economy and Business Class), Embraer E190 (Economy and Business Class), Embraer E2 (Business Class only), and Airbus A320 and Airbus A321 NEO (Business Class only). Please note that a passenger with an infant under 1 year of age must purchase a paid seat in the first row of economy or business class if the aircraft is configured to accommodate a bassinet. In order to reserve your baby bassinet please advise your travel agent when making your flight reservation or contact us directly via this link. It is necessary to know that baby bassinets are not available on some aircraft operated by Air Astana due to the configuration of the fleet. Before planning your trip, we recommend you check the availability of baby bassinets in advance on the desired flight.

Unaccompanied Minors

Unaccompanied minors are accepted for transportation:

- from 6 to 16 years of age

- on flights between 06:00-23:00*

- only on direct flights operated by the airline

Exception: transit flights from Almaty via Astana to London and Frankfurt (operated by Air Astana).

During the transit stopover in Astana, unaccompanied children will be accompanied, no accompanying or meeting person is needed in Astana. Transit stops in Astana should not exceed 2.5 hours for the flights Almaty-London-Almaty and 2 hours for the flights Almaty-Frankfurt-Almaty.

*Please note that in order to ensure additional security, in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated August 8, 2002 No. 345-II On the rights of the child in the Republic of Kazakhstan ”, minor passengers (up to 17 years old inclusive) will be denied transportation to/from Kazakhstan without accompanying adults in case the departure time is at night (23.00-06:00). Please note that for safety reasons, hot drinks will not be provided to unaccompanied minors on board.

When making a reservation, the parents or guardian of an unaccompanied minor must do the following:

- make a request for an accompaniment (through the ticketing agent)

- ensure confirmation

- purchase the ticket at the earliest (at least 24 hours in advance)

- ensure the arrival of the unaccompanied minor at the check-in no later than 2 hours before departure of the international flight and at least 1.5 hours before departure of the domestic flight (as the check-in procedure requires more time for checking and completing accompanying documents)

Please note that unaccompanied minors are required to have paper documents for check-in and boarding.

**Birth certificate needed to document the child's parents/guardians;

***Agreement for transportation of unaccompanied minor must be filled out in advance by the legal guardians. It is necessary to print out 6 copies and bring all copies to the airport.

Should the responsible adult who is taking the unaccompanied minor to the airport upon departure, not be the mother, father or legal guardian of the child, the mother, father or legal guardian will be asked for a notarized letter approving the release of the child to the named responsible adult.

Air Astana does not charge for accommodating unaccompanied minors.


Memo to parents:

1. The accompanying person and the child should arrive at the airport on time and go to the check-in desk in advance, at least 2 hours before departure of the international flight and at least 1.5 hours before departure of the domestic flight. The person meeting an unaccompanied minor should also be at the airport in advance of the flight arrival time;

2. The accompanying person must stay at the airport until the flight departure. In case of a flight delay notification via SMS, the accompanying person must stay with the child or take responsibility for the child until the actual departure time;

3. The accompanying person must make sure that the child is able to carry his/her hand baggage on his/her own, otherwise it should be checked in as baggage. When packing the items that the child is going to take with him/her, it is important to keep in mind the restrictions on the transportation of dangerous substances and objects in both checked and hand baggage. For example, items like lithium batteries and accumulators, chargers, power banks, and mercury-containing thermometers are not allowed to be transported in checked baggage. 4. It is advisable to purchase a ticket for an unaccompanied child with a fare that includes a free baggage allowance; it is not recommended to purchase a ticket with the Basic fare.
