The Almaty Republican Hippodrome, founded in March 1930, is the oldest sports facility in Almaty. Its establishment significantly contributed to the development of selective breeding and the improvement of horse breeding in Kazakhstan. During the Soviet era, it was considered one of the finest hippodromes in the USSR, hosting numerous All-Union competitions. The hippodrome primarily focused on trials for saddle and trotting horses, as well as organizing equestrian sports events. Even during the Great Patriotic War, it remained operational, supplying horses for cavalry units. Over the years, the Almaty Hippodrome has been the site of more than 100 speed records.
