Smart baggage refers to innovative baggage items (such as bags and suitcases) equipped with integrated lithium batteries, motors, GPS, GSM, Bluetooth, RFID, or Wi-Fi, and may also include lithium-ion battery power banks for charging electronic devices like mobile phones and gadgets. It is important to recognise that smart baggage can be potentially hazardous due to the presence of installed lithium batteries and electromagnetic field emissions, which may interfere with aircraft systems.
If you intend to bring this type of baggage on board, it is essential to ensure that all installed lithium batteries are removable. Prior to check-in, any such batteries must be removed, and all electronic items should be deactivated. The removed batteries should be taken into the cabin and carried solely as cabin baggage.
Baggage without batteries can be transported either as checked baggage or in the cabin, provided their dimensions (and quantity) comply with Air Astana's rules on carry-on baggage allowance.
The watt-hour rating of lithium-ion batteries must not exceed 100Wh/h unless approved by Air Astana, in which case it must not exceed 160Wh/h.
Air Astana retains the right to decline smart baggage with non-removable lithium batteries.
