In order for us to be able to carefully prepared, the transportation of certain types of sports equipment and special equipment requires prior approval and reservation.

We recommend that you take care of the reliable packaging of your sports equipment or special equipment, especially items that are carried in the cargo compartment of the aircraft, as checked baggage. If you have a special transportation cover or case, you should use it as a package.

Prior approval and additional payment are not required for transportation:

• Ski equipment
• Snowboard equipment
• Tennis or Squash Equipment
• Badminton equipment
• Fishing equipment
• Water skiing
• Horse-riding equipment
• Ice or inline skating
• Archery equipment
• Paddles and oars for different types of rowing
• Ice hockey equipment
• Hula hoops for rhythmic gymnastics

You can carry the above-mentioned sports equipment at no extra charge, provided that it is included in the free baggage allowance at the fare of your ticket. This rule does not apply to the Basic fare, for which payment for the transport of sports equipment is made as for an excess piece of baggage, subject to weight restrictions as well.

In the event that the free baggage allowance is exceeded in quantity or weight, you can use the MyBAGGAGE service to pay for excess baggage. Please note that the weight of one piece of baggage must not exceed 32 kg.

The following equipment is allowed for transportation per one passenger and is regarded as 1 piece of baggage:

For transportation of the listed below equipment, prior approval and additional payment are required.

In order for us to prepare for transportation as best as possible, a request for approval must be sent as early as possible, at least 24 hours before the departure of your flight, to your tour agency or via Help Centre.

• Surf Boards and Kite Boards
• Canoes
• Bicycles
• Golf Equipment
• Diving Equipment
• Jumping poles

** Bicycles must be securely packed, pedals removed, and tires deflated.

*** Golf equipment can be carried free of charge as part of additional baggage (second baggage item/second piece with a total weight of not more than 15 kg) on the following routes: Delhi – Almaty – Delhi, Dubai – Almaty – Dubai, Bangkok – Almaty – Bangkok. Transportation from these cities to Almaty and back must be issued in one ticket. Business Class passengers with 2 pieces of baggage may use a second piece of baggage free of charge to carry their golf equipment, if a Business Class passenger wishes to carry an additional piece of baggage in addition to 2 baggage pieces, a surcharge will be required for the sports equipment according to the price list.

**** Diving bottles are empty and the valves are open for transportation. The diving lamp must be de-energized, the lamp and battery must be removed and transported only in hand luggage.

For transportation of Weapons and Ammunition, prior approval and additional payment are required.

If you would like to carry weapons (combat, sports, souvenir, model guns, etc.), please make an advance request for weapon carriage. Request must be done 72 hours prior to departure by contacting Help Centre or making request through ticketing agency*.

The following items to be specified:

• type and quantity of weapons
• model, serial number, tag number of the weapon
• purpose of use
• type and quantity of ammunition, cartridges for weapons (not more than 5 kg gross weight per person is allowed; allowances for more than one person must not be combined into one or more pieces of baggage).

Conditions of carriage:

It is allowed to carry only in checked baggage: sporting and hunting weapons, handguns and rifled weapons, as well as securely packed ammunition (cartridges for weapons) belonging to Hazard Division 1.4S (UN numbers 0012 and 0014).

Weapons and ammunition must be packed in different bags in accordance with IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations. If necessary, a special luggage box must be used to separate both items from each other.

Weapons must be unloaded. Ammunition carried in passenger aircraft must be for personal use for sporting and/or hunting purposes only.

Each passenger may carry a maximum of 5 kg gross of ammunition (must be weighed) for their own personal use. Allowances for more than one person must not be combined into one or more pieces of baggage.

Ammunition must be securely packaged, i.e. in standard commercial packaging. For timely completion of all formalities at the airport, passengers should approach the check-in desk no later than 2 hours before the flight departure.

If there is a transit site where a weapon is transported, the minimum connecting time between flights must be more than 2 hours to re-register the weapon. After the flight arrives, the weapon is unloaded and given to the transit passenger for inspection and confirmation with Airport Aviation Security. After verification, the passenger pays for the transportation if necessary and re-registers, and receives a baggage tag for the final flight.

Prohibited to carry ammunition with explosive or incendiary projectiles.

Transportation of weapons as checked baggage or cargo to/from London is prohibited on Air Astana flights.

If you wish to transport weapons to Thailand, you will need to attach to the request a license, a copy of passport and permission from the National Shooting Sports Association of Thailand.
The request for weapons transportation to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) must be sent no later than 2 weeks prior to departure. Request processing is performed on a fee basis of 170 AED. Payment does not guarantee permit issuance. In case of refusal, the amount paid is non-refundable.

* If you wish to transport weapons to South Korea or UAE, please send all documents to Help Centre.

If you are planning to travel with your musical instruments, such as a cello or double bass, or other fragile items, you will be asked to purchase an extra seat for it. Your travel agent or local Air Astana office can assist in purchasing a ticket for your instrument. The maximum weight of the instrument or fragile item, that can be carried on board is 75 kg with maximum dimensions of 120 x 50 x 30 cm.

Guitars, saxophones, or similar-sized musical instruments can be transported as checked baggage and carried in the cabin.

If the weight of the musical instrument is more than the free allowance (23 kg in Economy class and 32 kg in Business class), excess baggage rates apply (MyBaggage).
