Carriage of Special Equipment

Whether you're a member of a sports team, a touring musician, or simply someone looking to bring along special equipment for your holiday, we recognize the significance of transporting your cherished items. By adhering to our provided guidelines, we ensure your belongings arrive safely and on time.

Each piece of baggage must not exceed a total size of 158 cm (length + width + height). If your baggage exceeds this limit, please seek prior confirmation and make the necessary payment based on the published rates. For confirmation, kindly contact our Help Centre.

Carriage of baggage, including special equipment such as sports equipment, weapons and ammunition, and musical instruments, on joint flights under codeshare and interline agreements is subject to the rules of the operating carrier.

Oversized baggage (a bag with a total sum of three dimensions exceeding 158 cm) when departing from Dubai airport, UAE, will only be accepted at the special OOG (OUT OF GAUGE) check-in counter, and an additional charge of AED 45 will apply. This payment will be processed by the DNATA Ground Handling Company. Please note that this fee does not apply to the pet carriage service in the baggage compartment.

Important information

To ensure thorough preparation, it's essential to obtain approval in advance and make reservations for the transportation of specific sports equipment and special items. We strongly advise packing your sports equipment with care, particularly any items designated for travel in the cargo hold as checked baggage. If you possess a designated transportation cover or case, we recommend packing your items in it for added protection.

You can transport sports equipment without additional charges if it complies with the free baggage allowance specified by your ticket's fare. However, if you already have checked baggage, the sports equipment will be subject to an additional fee. For passengers with a Basic fare, the transportation of sports equipment is treated as excess baggage, and weight limitations will apply. If your baggage exceeds the permitted quantity or weight, you can use the excess baggage service. Please note that no individual item of baggage can exceed 32kg in weight.

Please review the following list of sports equipment to determine if prior approval and additional payments are required, and access useful information regarding the transportation of sports equipment.

Prior approval and additional payment are not required for the carriage of the following items, only if their weight corresponds to the free baggage allowance specified in the fare of your ticket.

Ski equipment

One case, containing one or two sets of archery equipment

Paddles and oars

One case, containing one or a pair of paddles or oars, for canoes, kayak etc. (Maximum length of a paddle - 250cm)

Ice hockey equipment

Hula hoops for rhythmic gymnastics

Prior approval and additional payment are required

To ensure smooth transportation of the equipment listed below, it is essential to obtain prior approval and additional payment is necessary. Kindly send a request for approval at least 24 hours before your flight departure, either through your tour agency or via the Help Centre.

Details for some equipments

Bicycles must be securely packed with pedals removed and tires deflated.

Golf equipment can be carried free of charge as part of additional baggage (second baggage item/second piece, total weight not exceeding 15kg) on specified routes, provided the travel involves both Almaty and certain departure cities (Delhi – Almaty – Delhi, Dubai – Almaty – Dubai, Bangkok – Almaty – Bangkok), and is issued under a single ticket. Business Class passengers with two pieces of baggage may use their second piece for golf equipment without extra charge, but if their golf clubs are carried in addition to their two pieces of baggage then a sports equipment surcharge applies as per the price list.

For diving equipment, bottles must be empty with valves open during transportation. Diving lamps must be de-energized, lamps and batteries removed, and carried in carry-on baggage.
