  • Air Astana Conducts Day of Knowledge Campaign in Four Cities

    17 September 2013

In honor of the Day of Knowledge and beginning of the academic year, Air Astana has presented sports and playing equipment worth a 7 million tenge to specialized child care institutions in Almaty, Taldykorgan, Atyrau and Shymkent. The project has been implemented in cooperation with the Ayala Charity Foundation.

The airline analyzed the needs of specialized boarding schools, and assistance has been provided according to their individual needs. Specifically, a playing complex has been provided and arbors have been repaired for Almaty City Children’s Home No. 2 at a cost of 2.5 million tenge; a children’s playground costing 1.3 million tenge has been presented to the Taldykorgan regional special boarding school for hard of hearing and deaf children; a playing complex costing 2.25 million tenge has been built for the Atyrau S.Kazybayev regional boarding school No. 1 for orphans; and Shymkent boarding school No. 1 for deaf children has been awarded sports gear and toy cars worth almost 900,000 tenge.

Providing assistance to children is one of the most important objectives of Air Astana’s corporate social responsibility. This campaign has been influenced by the airline’s effort to bring lively and cheerful colors to the lives of children affected by social or health problems and the desire to provide them with safe and enjoyable surroundings.

“The national air carrier started implementing charity projects in regions in 2012. During its operation, Air Astana has been providing free of charge tickets to children suffering oncologic and cardiovascular diseases who need urgent treatment and surgery abroad. On this year's Day of Knowledge we decided to congratulate our children on the beginning of the academic year, expressing our sincerest wishes of good health and academic progress”, – Bella Tormysheva, Air Astana Vice President.

Zhangeldy Sarsenov, Ayala Charity Foundation Vice President, stated that, “While working with children's educational institutions, we have found out that the near-by territory where children walk and play makes no one want to spend time on it and is equipped with almost nothing, except for goalposts and a horizontal bar. However, outdoor games are one of the most important elements of children’s health. Thus, we have launched a national project called 'My Childhood’s Yards', under which we plan to build modern playing grounds in various cities in Kazakhstan”.

Air Astana participated in 12 charity campaigns in 2013. The airline will continue offering support to the children’s homes and boarding schools in Kazakhstan. Air Astana strongly believes in the principles of consistency and regularity in the implementation of charitable and sponsored programs when making its contribution to improve life in society.
